Star-Spangled Sugar Cookie Bars

Description

An easy, festive 4-ingredient holiday dessert that comes together in 30 minutes. These soft, chewy sugar cookie bars are perfect for potlucks and require minimal effort for maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15-16 oz / 425-450g) sugar cookie mix
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup (50g) holiday sprinkles
  • ¼ cup (40g) white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sugar cookie mix, softened butter, eggs, and milk.
  3. Mix with a fork or spatula until a soft, scoopable dough forms. If too dry, add another tablespoon of milk; if too wet, add a tablespoon of cookie mix.
  4. Transfer the dough to the prepared pan. Press it into an even layer using your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup.
  5. Sprinkle holiday sprinkles and optional white chocolate chips evenly over the top. Press them gently into the dough so they adhere.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the center is set but still soft.
  7. Let the bars cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes to allow them to set completely.
  8. Use the parchment overhang to lift the slab out of the pan. Cut into 12-16 squares or rectangles.

Notes

Softened butter is crucial; do not use melted butter as it makes the bars greasy. Ensure the bars cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free sugar cookie mix. For dairy-free, use a dairy-free butter substitute.
