Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (16 oz) jars or containers refrigerated pulled pork
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp chipotle powder (optional)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 12 Hawaiian rolls or brioche buns
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Brush cut sides with melted butter and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, combine BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, mustard, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and chipotle powder. Whisk and let bubble for 1 minute to bloom spices.
- Add pulled pork to the skillet and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 5-7 minutes until hot and slightly caramelized. Add a splash of water if sticking.
- Toast buns in the oven for 3-4 minutes or in the skillet for 1 minute per side.
- Place bottom buns on a serving platter. Spoon hot pork mixture onto each bun. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the pork.
- Place top buns on the cheese. Cover the platter with aluminum foil and let sit for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese and warm the buns.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
Notes
Use refrigerated pulled pork for better texture. Balance the sweetness of store-bought BBQ sauce with apple cider vinegar. Toast buns well to prevent sogginess. Can be made gluten-free by swapping rolls and checking sauce labels. Dairy-free option available by skipping butter and cheese.
