Description
These crispy, spicy, and creamy bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers are the ultimate holiday appetizer. Naturally gluten-free and easy to make ahead, they offer a perfect balance of smoky bacon and tangy cheese filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12–15 medium jalapeño peppers
- 8 oz (225g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup (100g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (e.g., Tabasco or Frank’s)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 pound (450g) thick-cut bacon
- Brown sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly grease it. Place a wire rack on the sheet if available.
- Wear gloves and slice jalapeños in half lengthwise. Scrape out seeds and white membranes using a spoon or melon baller.
- In a small bowl, mix softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Generously fill each jalapeño half with the cream cheese mixture, packing it in tightly.
- Wrap each stuffed jalapeño half with a slice of bacon, tucking the end under or on top to secure.
- Place poppers on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until bacon is crispy and peppers are tender. Check halfway through.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with brown sugar if desired.
Notes
Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid skin irritation. Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for a smooth filling. For extra crispiness, use a wire rack. These can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the fridge before baking.
